UKQC Level 4 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Description

The Mechanical Engineering course has been designed to enable direct progression to a full honours degree course upon successful completion. You will have the opportunity to investigate 3D printing, mechatronics, Stirling engines, drone technology, robotics and advanced mathematics relevant to engineering. You can opt to pursue a specialist pathway in mechanical, electrical/electronic or general engineering for the diploma part of the qualification.

The qualification is undertaken on a day release basis over two years. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required by the sector with national recognition by employers. The units are:

Core Units

Year 1

  • Unit 1 Engineering Mathematics
  • Unit 2 Engineering Science
  • Unit 3 Mechanical Principles
  • Unit 4 Computer aided design/Computer aided manufacture

Year 2

  • Unit 5 Engineering Design
  • Unit 6 Managing a Professional Engineering Project
  • Unit 7 Engineering Management
  • Unit 8 Thermodynamics

Entry Requirements

For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • A grade and/or 9 in GCSE Maths (or equivalent) is strongly recommended.
  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Other related Level 3 Mechanical qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related and relevant work experience in engineering over 5 years
  • An international equivalent of the above.
  • You should be familiar with basic computer functions and applications including Microsoft Windows and Office. Parts of your programme will be delivered using Microsoft Teams. Training for this application will be provided.
